I think the expansion will be great and will get it regardless of how many extra character slots. A few things though;
1) if i have GW and get the expansion can i play it(with the four slots) decide how i want my character then apply it to my old GW accout to have 5 slots(if its decided only one slot) after i decide on what extra character i want?
2)
"As far as pets go they really need a flying pet of somekind. A big Eagle or a pet dragon or something"
I think all animals in both continents should be charmable. I want one of those giant burrowing worms if he gets a dragon
3) please better pet AI :/ they are mentally challenged.
4)whats with all the "down with assassin" post? can you say A/W hundred blade/cyclone axe? A/Me illusionary weapon? I drool at the possibilities even though I suck with my warrior :/
5) if i get the expansion can i bring my character from chapter 1 into chapter 2? (just kidding :P)

When you buy Factions and apply it to your existing account, what you gain is an additional character slot, plus the ability to move FIVE characters through BOTH Cantha and Tyria.

Have you played through Guild Wars five times? Are you really that excited to do it again?
I actually have played through about 95% of GW on 5 different characters (2 deleted). Being able to play through the whole of GW:F with my existing characters, while it is something, its not terribly appealing to me. It takes alot of time just to go through it once, doing it 5 times is a little excessive. By my last character, I had only done about half the story, skipping much of it because I don't want to bother with it if I don't have to, just enough to get to the later missions and lvl 20 etc.
I want to get all the new skills, but if it means deleting a character or having to go through the story on more than 2 characters, ug

As a matter of fact I do, actually I currently have 7 toons, all of which fully ascended, and completed the ring of fire island missions :P
Well it is a way of thinking of it I guess, if you buy C2 as a standalone, you won't be able to enjoy trying the new ritualist SF farming builds (for instance), if you do you will be able to play that, as well as get your ritualist FoW armor.. etc.

I'm kind of disappointed with the other new class, the Ritualist. Now admittedly, most of what I know about Chinese history I've learned through video games (from Koei mostly) and various movies (Iron Monkey, Chinese Ghost Story, etc). For a Chinese flavored continent, I would have liked to have seen another type of warrior, like a martial artist, or another sort of priest. One that specializes in dealing with monsters/demons (sort of an anti-Necromancer). I really don't see how the Ritualist fits in. Especially as there are already lots of spell casting classes.

Well think about it, assassin is a melee class. Adding the assassin and another melee class would have made 4 melee classes and 3 casters. Chapter 1 had 2 fighters and 4 casters. Adding 1 to each helps maintain that ration better with 3 fighters and 5 casters.
plus...there are so many different ways to approach magic, and not that many to approach fighting.
There is:
brute force(warrior)
range(ranger)
stealthy(assassin)
unarmed(martial artist of some kind)
defencively(some kind of tank character with shield mastery or something)
this leaves 2 easy classes for the next 2 expansions. And magic can be done infinantly...blue mage, red mage, black mage, white mage...then start mixing and coming up with other things...star mage for the disgaea fans?
(oh and by the way...there is an antinecro class...its called monk)

Actually there is only finesse, brute force, and precision. Thats it, the rest is just flavors on what is used to achieve that. It doesnt matter if its a sword, polearm, hammer, bow, or your fist.

Yep and another squaresoft fan. Red black and white already exist (see reference to elementalist, monk, and soon to be ritualist). Blue would be copying monster only skills. There are not that many and most kinda suck. All other skills are shared.

Actually, that is the anti damage class, not anti necro. The only things that hates out necros specifically are convert hexes and scourge sacrifice. However, not all necromancer skills are hexes or require life sacrifice and the bonus armor level from convert is meaningless to the vast majority of necro skills. Backfire hurts more than scourge sacrifice in most instances anyway and soul leech is a close second compared to scourge sacrifice. Basically the only skill that slips through those is touch of agony... Yay.

Yes, but the monk also has all those holy damage skills that do extra damage to undead...

Yeah you'll keep everything you had on your Chapter 1 characters, as long as you don't delete them. Storage will stay the same.

That would be cool: an unarmed character. Other than Mesmer this would be the most cost effective char in the game. Just imagine, no 100k l33t weapons of doomy mcdoom doom.
Someone esle posted they wanted a martial artist to go with the Chinese theme. That would have been even better than the Assasin. Maybe if they come out with a Japanese version they'll make an Aikido char. All in all, I like the idea of a martial artist/open hand combat melee char. It could get cool because they could use magic to do all the stylized martial arts like Crouching Tiger.

You only need one new slot to unlock all the skills of the 2 new characters. 1 slot is more than enough.

I think I might delete one of my characters. Just transfer weapons armor and stuff to storage. I'll make a new character with exactly ythe same name as the old one.

I just tend to wonder about the storylines.
*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
As in, in Factions, will they be continuing at all with the Chapter 1 storyline some how? Im asking, since Factions is a stand alone/expansion. If they did, people who play chapter 2 before 1, would have the story spoiled wouldn't they? Will we hear from Gwen again? Will we meet Prince Rurik once more? Will we ever be able to confront King Adelburn (sp) about Rurik? Will we eventually get to see the people of Ascalon once more at peace? Will we be seeing Devona, Cynn, Mhenlo, and Aidan again? Will we be meeting up once again with the Mursaat? Or will it all just be ditched?
Because I really want to learn more about the game, and what actually happens next, but I also wonder how and if they will do that considering how Factions can be standalone.
Hmm..Next time someone see's Gaile on, ask her for me will you? I have never seen her on as of yet ;-).

Hmmm, I think a simple 'whoops' would suffice as an explanation to why we abandoned our people and ran away, got his son killed and generally acted like idiots releasing and fighting big nasties, ect, ect.
Yup I can see 'ol kingy accepting that at face value (runs..)
Actually going to Cantha might be the only way of avoiding AddledBarn's wrath, us being traitors/ mass murderers and all that.

I admit I didn't have time to go through all the posts in this thread, but I'll ask for a simple clarification from those who have the mag or some info.
Fact:Factions can be played standalone.
Assumption: If you install Factions standalone, you'll be getting atleast 4 character slots.
Speculation: If you have an exising account, and add factions to it, you might get one or atmost two additional character slots.
Theory: If I want more character slots, wouldnt it be better to install factions as a standalone, even though I have the original. I have no intention of trying to finish the Chapter 1 content with the two new classes, or of playing Chapter 2 content with my existing classes.
So, wont I be better off installing Factions as standalone even though I have Chapter 1? Or am I really missing something here?
